Skin barrier damaged or purging?
This tool cannot diagnose either. It organises the routine clues that matter when a new active is followed by breakouts, burning, tightness, flaking or redness, and tells you when the safest next step is to stop experimenting and get professional advice.
Important: “purging” is not a reason to push through significant pain, swelling, blistering, a spreading rash or rapidly worsening symptoms. Those need an appropriate pharmacist, GP, NHS or dermatology route.
Why this tool is deliberately cautious
Burning, marked stinging, escalating dryness or a rash are more useful reasons to simplify a routine than the hope that every worsening breakout is temporary “purging”. A new treatment can also cause both irritation and breakouts, so this page does not pretend the two categories are always cleanly separable online.
